Free Year 3 worksheets (age 7-8)
Year 3 is the start of Key Stage 2, for children aged 7 to 8. In maths they learn the 3, 4 and 8 times tables, work with numbers to 1,000 and begin column addition and subtraction. They also read clocks with Roman numerals from I to XII. In English they meet paragraphs, inverted commas for speech, and conjunctions, adverbs and prepositions that show time, place and cause.
Science moves on to rocks and fossils, light and shadows, forces and magnets, skeletons and muscles, and the parts of a flower. This page also has KS2 history and geography sheets, such as the Stone Age, Ancient Egypt, rivers and the 8-point compass. A few cover Year 4 topics for children who are ready to go further.
In Northern Ireland this is Primary 4, and in Scotland it is roughly Primary 4. Wales keeps the name Year 3.

Moving up to Key Stage 2
Year 3 can feel like a big step. Children are expected to read more independently, write at greater length and start joining their handwriting. History and geography change too: the national curriculum sets these subjects for the whole of Key Stage 2, so your child's school decides when topics such as the Romans or rivers are taught. If a sheet here is not on your child's timetable yet, it can still be a good introduction.
How to use these sheets at home
At this age many children like to work through a sheet alone and then check it. Let them try first, then use the answers together to talk through anything that went wrong. Times tables stick best with short daily practice, so a sheet on the fridge for a week can help. For science and history, a library book or a trip to look at real rocks or a river makes the sheet more memorable.
Questions parents ask
What age is Year 3?
Year 3 children are 7 at the start of the school year and turn 8 during it. It is the first year of Key Stage 2, and with Year 4 it is often called lower Key Stage 2.
Why are some Year 4 topics on the Year 3 page?
Some sheets here are written for Year 4, such as food chains, the water cycle and possessive apostrophes. They follow on directly from Year 3 work, so children who are confident can try them early. English content is also set for Years 3 and 4 together.
Can I share these sheets with my child's class?
Yes. They are free to print and share, whether that is with a grandparent, a tutor or a whole class. Nobody needs an account or an email address to use them.
