Year 3 and 4 spelling list: all 100 statutory words
Children in Years 3 and 4 learn to spell 100 set words, from ‘accident’ to ‘woman’. Unlike the Key Stage 1 lists, this list is statutory: every school in England following the National Curriculum teaches these words over the two years.
The list mixes words children use often in their writing with words they often misspell. Print it, tick each word your child can spell, and use the practice page for the rest.
Prints on two A4 pages: the full list, then a practice page.

Is this list statutory?
‘The word-lists for years 3 and 4 and years 5 and 6 are statutory.’ English Appendix 1, National Curriculum in England.
How to practise at home
Work through five words at a time. Look for the tricky part of each word, such as the ‘ei’ in ‘eight’ or the double letters in ‘address’, and say it in an exaggerated way to remember it. Use the practice page for look, say, cover, write and check, and add a sentence using the word.
Words in brackets
Some entries show related forms, such as ‘accident(ally)’ or ‘possess(ion)’. Children learn both the root word and the longer form. Pairs like ‘breath’ and ‘breathe’ are worth practising together.
